Giá dầu sụt hơn 5% xuống mức thấp nhất trong 3 tuần vào ngày thứ Tư (28/10), khi sự bùng nổ số ca nhiễm Covid-19 ở Mỹ và châu Âu đang dẫn đến các biện pháp đóng cửa mới, làm dấy lên lo ngại rằng đà phục hồi kinh tế không ổn định sẽ xấu đi, CNBC đưa tin.

Kết thúc phiên giao dịch ngày thứ Tư, hợp đồng WTI tương lai sụt 2.18 USD (tương đương 5.5%) xuống 37.39 USD/thùng, mức đóng cửa thấp nhất trong 3 tuần. Hợp đồng dầu Brent tương lai rớt 2.12 USD (tương đương 5.15%) xuống 39.08 USD/thùng.

Cả hợp đồng dầu WTI và dầu Brent đều ghi nhận mức đóng cửa thấp nhất kể từ ngày 02/10/2020.

Đà sụt giảm giá dầu thô phản ánh sự suy thoái ở các thị trường tài sản rủi ro khác, khi các chỉ số chứng khoán Mỹ nhuốm sắc đỏ, với chỉ số S&P 500 mất 2.7%.

Đồng USD đã tăng 0.5% trước khả năng phong tỏa trên toàn quốc ở Đức và Pháp nhằm đối phó với dịch Covid-19. Đồng USD mạnh hơn làm dầu trở nên đắt đỏ hơn đối với người nắm giữ ngoại tệ, điều mà các nhà đầu tư cho biết sẽ gây sức ép đến giá dầu thô.

Mỹ, Nga, Pháp và nhiều quốc gia khác đã ghi nhận số ca nhiễm Covid-19 tăng kỷ lục trong những ngày gần đây và chính phủ các nước châu Âu đã đưa ra các biện pháp hạn chế mới để cố gắng kiềm chế sự bùng phát nhanh chóng dịch bệnh Covid-19.

Cũng góp phần gây sức ép lên giá dầu vào ngày thứ Tư, Cơ quan Thông tin Năng lượng Mỹ (EIA) cho biết dự trữ dầu thô nội địa tăng mạnh hơn dự báo trong tuần trước khi sản lượng tăng kỷ lục.

Nhà đầu tư cho biết giá dầu cũng chịu ảnh hưởng tiêu cực bởi triển vọng mờ nhạt đối với một thỏa thuận kích thích kinh tế mới tại Mỹ, cùng với sự gia tăng sản lượng dầu ở Libya.

Hôm thứ Ba (27/10), Tổng thống Mỹ Donald Trump thừa nhận rằng một gói viện trợ kinh tế khó có thể xảy ra cho đến sau cuộc bầu cử vào ngày thứ Ba tới (03/11).

Sản lượng của Libya được dự báo sẽ phục hồi lên 1 triệu thùng/ngày trong vài tuần tới.
