Quỹ Tiền tệ Quốc tế (IMF) nhận định những tổn thất do dịch COVID-19 gây ra cho kinh tế toàn cầu trong năm 2020 thậm chí có thể nhiều hơn năm 2009 và sẽ đòi hỏi một cách phản ứng chưa từng có tiền lệ.

Tổng giám đốc Quỹ Tiền tệ Quốc tế (IMF) Kristalina Georgieva ngày 23/3 cho biết, kinh tế thế giới đang chứng kiến những thiệt hại “khốc liệt” do đại dịch viêm đường hô hấp cấp COVID-19 gây ra, đồng thời cảnh báo kinh tế toàn cầu có nguy cơ đối mặt với tăng trưởng âm.

Theo bà Georgieva những tổn thất do dịch COVID-19 gây ra cho kinh tế toàn cầu trong năm 2020 thậm chí có thể nhiều hơn năm 2009 và sẽ đòi hỏi một cách phản ứng chưa từng có tiền lệ.

Trong bình luận gửi tới bộ trưởng tài chính Nhóm các nền kinh tế phát triển và mới nổi hàng đầu thế giới (G20), bà Georgieva đã kêu gọi các nền kinh tế tiên tiến cung cấp thêm hỗ trợ cho các nước có thu nhập thấp, và IMF “sẵn sàng huy động toàn bộ khoản cho vay trị giá 1.000 tỷ USD (để chống dịch COVID-19).”

Theo bà Georgieva, gần 80 quốc gia trên thế giới đã đề nghị IMF viện trợ khẩn cấp để đối phó với đại dịch COVID-19.

Trong bối cảnh ngày càng nhiều nước trên thế giới đối mặt với nguy cơ đóng cửa hàng loạt, bà Georgieva cảnh báo triển vọng tăng trưởng kinh tế toàn cầu năm 2020 “ở mức âm-cuộc suy thoái ít nhất là tồi tệ như một cuộc khủng hoảng tài chính toàn cầu hoặc thậm chí còn tồi tệ hơn.”
